ABOUT ME & MY APPROACH
I am a fully accredited counsellor with a graduate diploma in counselling and psychotherapy from the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre. I also hold a diploma in addiction studies and is currently working towards a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for 15 years in homeless services.
As a counsellor I work in a humanistic and integrative way. This means I trust in your ability to find your own way through issues, that you are the expert on you and that you know what is best for your own growth as a person. I aim to support and facilitate this process.
I work with people who come to counselling for a wide variety of reasons. Perhaps in your case you've been aware things aren't the way you'd like them to be, and perhaps you've been struggling quite a bit. Maybe you've been thinking that you can manage this yourself, but now you are not so sure, but the thought of speaking about it, really being honest about it, is pretty scary. The struggle might be anything; anxiety, feeling low, feeling bad about yourself, memories that disturb you, behaviours you can't seem to get a handle on, struggling after a loss, or just feeling that you're not yourself or who you know you can be.
I can help by providing you with a space to talk things out. I am not connected to the rest of your life and so that makes it a little easier and safer to talk about things in a more honest way; you don't have to worry that I will tell others you know. I am available to listen, to accept and to help you find a way through.
Not many of us get through life without needing the type of support that is available through counselling and therapy. It can bring peace of mind, more joy and better relationships and help you feel more confident in yourself. It is my aim to support you towards all of this.
