My training and qualifications give me the skills to work with most mental health issues. Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Phobia, Trauma, Relationship issues, Panic attacks, Sleep disorder, eating disorder etc.
However, most of my accreditation work has been with a suicide agency, Sosad Ireland and this has introduced me to issues of loss, bereavement, Blame, Anger, self-harm and much more. Naturally it ties in with depression.
I am also a recovered Alcoholic (22 years clean now) But this cost me my marriage, home, job and left me homeless. For this reason, when I stopped, I was curious to learn about addiction and studied this in Trinity. I am well-versed in this area which is also a huge issue in our above-average rate of suicide.
Personally, I am a very warm and caring person. I use Ellis' REBT for its pure simplicity and because it helped me get over my phobias and panic attacks. I also use CBT quite regularly. However, I do believe that all therapies need to be accompanied, in the beginning at least by Rogers, person-centred style. I feel this helps form the warm and trusting environment that allows the Counsellor/Client relationship to grow.
